[Mk2] [Turbo] Car is wandering and oversteering more to the right

Post by stormshadow »

Just broke the car out after its winter hibernation and it's handling a bit scary. It is wandering about a bit and also you get a big over-steer sensation - more so when cornering right rather than left.

Tyre pressures all checked as well as all the bushes (by a garage I trust).

Full alignment done with the only borderline measurement now is the right front caster is at 3.34 degrees. When I had the alignment done last year it had a similar caster without these symptoms..

So what should I be looking at next ? Rear droplinks ? what else ?

Nothing is banging or feels loose and I have done approx 100 spirited miles to shake it down.

It is a Rev 1.

Thanks in advance..

If so, the offending brake disc would be radiating heat you could feel through the wheel. Easy test.

Thanks for the suggestion Nic, unless it is only sticking when driving I don't think that it is the cause. I can easily push the car back and forward on the driveway...

I'm not getting any heat build up when driving also ..

Thanks, I guess a more thorough inspection of all the components is now needed..

If its a Rev 1 the caster can be adjusted so get it back and set up again

with mk1s this is usualy caused by ball joint, top mounts or bushes! have u tried jacking each corned and see if you have any play in any suspension components?

Mine seems to wander to the right when I apply the brakes since I changed to coilovers (Which likely means it's my doing) - just a tracking issue I hope...

There are 2 *really good* wheel alignment places in Milton Keynes these days. JPS Motorsport and Wheels In Motion would both be able to perform comprehensive and conclusive investigation into this.

I'm not sure the WIM branch is 100% open yet, it's very new. JPS have the same kit as WIM in Chesham, but the WIM MK branch has better stuff (when it is eventually 100% operational).

Thanks, yes I heard WIM had opened up a spot in MK so I will pop along to them after I have had the MR2 serviced and suspension checked for anything obvious.
