I hear Gent is a good place to spend a few days. Perhaps on the way back?

Lauren - we'll already be near Strasbourg by the Weds (we're heading to the village where my great-grandfather was born in Alsace) and will have done Bruges, Lille, Luxembourg etc on the way down so we won't be heading back up north until after Duderstadt. Unfortunately, I think I have to start my job on the Monday so it's just going to be a straight drive back on the Sunday for us.

Tbh John, we are up for a bit of a tour, the week before. I'm determined we'll have a good holiday this year.

It'd be very cool if a few of us went off early and did a trip around the places you mentioned.

Obviously we don't want to cramp your style in regard to your grandfather, but it would be nice if we can get a few of us together and do a bit of a tour.

It'd be great to meet up later in the week for the drive to Dudetown, but we're not up for a group hol prior to that. It's nothing personal, but this is the first time Yana and I will have been abroad together because of the hassle of getting visas for her so we're planning on a freeform jaunt for just the two of us.

Fair enough, John.

We just want to get away and have some fun and it looks like my mum is going to take care of Indy. Shame about the 'Ring though as I quite fancied that in the AE86.

Maybe we ought to head for the Stelvio or something like that. Aways had a fancy to go there.

I'd love to do a trip and hit up somewhere like the ring or stelvio... But not in the Fiesta! It will be next year before I have a drivers car again

Damn John. Nothing like a fast blast along mountain roads in convoy. That's exactly what I'd like to be doing!

Thought that was the only option. Mind you I'm guessing you'd have regretted removing the aircon!

Meh, have t-bar. :eye:

I am not sure it'll be a good cruiser really, stripped out, buckets and harnesses...thinking I am getting too old to do a thousand miles in a rattly bucket.

Roadsters are cheap and plentiful mind you. :thumleft:

True, Stripey will be horrible to drive any distance in. My car isn't brilliant. It's best if you cruise at 100kph, but anything over 130kph is too noisy. Though I do have an okay stereo and working air con. That makes all the difference really.

Why not bring the GTR?

Reckon an AE86 would be cool. We could convoy.

Doubt will be able to afford :(
Maybe a roadster, sell the race car and get a yellow roadster for future conversion in mind.

Ferry booking time!

http://www.ferrycheap.com/dfds

It's a funny time of year as it's the start of the summer holidays - if you book now you can get a return leaving Friday morning and returning Monday afternoon for £60.

I can't book mine because I don't know what sodding car I'm going in. I don't want to drive the Fiesta for that long because it will make me want to kill myself. I was going to get a lift but I'm not sure anyone else is going at the same times as me... might try and borrow my friend's MX5!

Do ferry prices tend to go up or down nearer the time?

So far it appears P&O prices have risen slightly in the last 2 months? Worth waiting til nearer the time or jump in now :?

It's a tricky one to judge this year - often the prices can go down nearer the time, but the olympics kick off the following week so I wouldn't bet on that happening this year for the return journey at least.

John - I'd imagine you can change vehicle details easily enough. SeaFrance didn't quibble or charge when I took Yana off the ticket and put Scott on instead. They're also now bust, though!

They get higher nearer the time

I could pay more and get a flexible ticket - the one's I've been looking at have all been budget ones!

Booked it!

Overnight ferry from Hull - Zeebrugge on Thursday.

Gonna have a couple of nights in Bruge on the way back. :D

Really excited now, Mish is hopping up and down at the prospect of going on a big floaty boat :D

Great stuff. I'm going to have to wait a little while as I need to start my new job and get some money in the bank. Then I'll book it. Expect will do so nearer the time as want to work out what else we would like to fit in on the trip. :+:
