4agte Mk1b Turbo - Coming out of Retirement

Post by Mk1Chris »

Well, after a near 4 year hiatus - what with finishing uni, buying a flat, renovating said flat and 2 career changes, I finally got round to dragging Woody out of the garage.

Im determined to make it to JAE this year.
Gave him a bit of a clean, fitted carbon bonnet and headlight covers and connected a battery to do my compression test...

only to find the battery didnt have enough juice to turn the engine at all - so it is now on charge. :-:

Got lots of new shiney bits to add when the engine comes out (if it needs to - but it probably will).
Including a Woodsport Frankenbox 6 speed LSD gearbox.

First job is to fault find the largeish amount of water coming out of the PCV hose and into my catch tank when on boost - suspect dodgy piston rings on cylinder 4 after doing some reading.

Will take this opportunity to sort the only issue i never fully conquered when i did the conversion, and get a custom turbo wastegate setup sorted out - might even go for a gt28 turbo upgrade if funds allow, but i dont want to overly complicate things.

Redline MT90, it'll need all the help it can when your turbo spools up :thumleft:

Many have tried and many have failed. Sadly I think carbon parts are just too expensive for most people.

Also, the supplier that made mine up for me is no longer making car parts - you could try getting one from the states, but i dont know what the quality will be like.

A guy covered his MK3 in this stuff - looked awesome

Think Peter is more interested in the weight loss side of it though.

Spot on Alex :thumleft:

Weight loss is my main interest

Having said that some little scroat keyed my bonnet a couple of years ago

Deep scratch from one side to t'other

Professional bonnet re-spray would cost as much as Chris's carbon panel

Im currently saving money to try and get moulds made for various mk1 items. The only problems moulds are usually 3x the price of the original part, from what i have found so far, and my mould making ability is not where it should be, as i haven't attempted to make my own yet

Late spec 'smallport' ae92 4agze block running aw11 supercharger electronics, ecu and injectors fitted with a Garrett T25 turbocharger.

In its current form it is set at 10psi on the wastegate, but i will be aiming for 1 bar.
