I have recently discovered the Blitz Electronic Boost Controller that the previous owner fitted, it has a number of pre-sets. The first one is stock boost around 14psi, setting two is about 16 psi and 3 is about 20. It goes up to 8 settings.
Its happy on setting two at aprox 16psi but on setting 3 around 20psi you get the fuel cut kicking in, at least I hope it's that!
The thing is, it's suppose to have a fuel cut defender so not sure why this happening? I guess it's not working right?
Which also brings me to my final question, what's the max boost I can run on a stock setup with a Apexi Air Filter and a decat exahust? I thought it was around 320 since that's when the fuel injectors max out?
I lied, I have another question, so what sort of psi do I need for 320? As I recall each psi is about 5-10 extra bhp?
Cheers.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Max boost with air filter and decat?
If you want it all to stay together NO more then 1.2 bar boost on a stock engine.
20 psi is just short of 1.5 bar

Rev3-5 can't fit FCDs like Rev1-2 as the fuel cut is software based inside the ECU. Where is it fitted?
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Max boost with air filter and decat?
Oh bu88er. Didn't know that.
Not sure where its fitted, if at all then since it was all done by the previous owner.
How do you work around the fuel cut if its software based then? Need to get the ECU re-mapped somewhere or something?
Cheers.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Max boost with air filter and decat?
Fuel cut on Rev3 is about 18psi. Only way round it is change to aftermarket ECU.
Wouldn't bother on a stock engine if you want it to last.

Stock ECU can't be re-mapped. As Peter says, aftermarket ECU is only way to remove it, but no point on aftermarket ECU unless you're going for a big power build.
Just keep the boost below the 18 psi fuel cut. sorted
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Max boost with air filter and decat?
Only thing is I wanted the most out of my current engine before I get an engine build done, so want to max it till then.
And I thought they were good for 320 and good strong engines?
What power is 18 psi then? Must be at least 300 I would say?

You can use one of Paul Port's FCDs as they work differently to "normal" FCDs if you want to up the boost cut limit on a stock ECU. That's assuming that he still makes them of course.

On stock pistons? Good luck

Very true
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Max boost with air filter and decat?
Yeah gen3 need a voltage clamp fcd. The guys in the US seem to run them while running super high octane fuels at the track.

You mean the US guys who don't have the "Gen3" engine?
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Max boost with air filter and decat?
So basically no-one ever goes about the fuel cut on a stock engine?
So that means 18 psi gas to be the max or 320 then? Correct?
Which means 16psi must be about 300ish then?

On a Rev3? True in 99% of cases.
dellams wrote:So that means 18 psi gas to be the max.
Correct.

Less.

Is it actually 18 psi the fuel cut? I heard it may be 17 psi?

Plenty of engine swaps. Hux Racing for one. 350rwhp @ 23psi.
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Max boost with air filter and decat?
Plenty?
I'd bet that less than 1% of MR2 Turbos in the states have a Gen3 swap. As for their dyno read outs, let's not go there

Laugh all you want about their dyno plots. They would clean up most of the cars on this 1/4 mile table.

OK
