Cigarette lighter to LED

Post by KarlBristol »

Tonight I repaired my cigarette lighter ring, but it glows a dull green.

Following my interior LED conversion, my ignition ring is a flourescent white colour and the difference is annoying me. I tried to wire in LEDs and resisters to the cigarette ring but they kept blowing. I went through about 5 leds tonight before I gave up.

Any idea how I can replace the bulb for an led or when I vcan get a replacement unit so that it glows a bright white?

Cheers :thumleft:

Karl,

your LEDs were probably blowing because you either had the incorect resistor or it was fitted the wrong way around.

Take a look on eBay there are some direct Ciggie lighter replacements for under a fiver with a variety different couloured LED halos. I will post a link later but can't access eBay from work :(

I'm sure you have the wrong resistors, I just soldered a resistor & led to the wires and it works fine...

Oh and in relation to the resisters I just used the ones which were provided when I bought the LEDs. I even tried with two resisters but had no joy.

I will do some more research....

Karl, I also use 'Goodwill Sales' for my LEDs and resistors, drop them a line and ask for the correct ones. You will need to reduce from 12V to whatever the output on the LED is.
