[Mk2] [Turbo] Pacific Works prototype Airbox

Post by Driftlimits Performance »

So here's a couple of pics of the prototype airbox. A little different to the ones that I'll be knocking out.

The general idea was to make something similar to an ARC box, but as most people already have aftermarket filters, make more of a shield/box that seperates the filter from the engines warm air and can be used with any 3" filter.

All ally construction, could be polished/chromed/painted etc.

Thoughts please :thumleft:

Looks brilliant, I'd take one.

Would it not be more beneficial to shove the filter right down into the side air vent? Just a thought.

Cheers, Michael.

i thought about doing somethin like that but changed my mind, surely blocking that much air out from flow of the engine is not going help keep the block cool?

top bit od work there though i do like it :thumleft:

interested myself :thumleft:

I made a similar thing, and cut a vent into the inspection panel to try and guide air through...it deffo makes a difference keeping all the hot engine bay out of the filter.

I was thinking similar when the last ARC was up for sale but was thinking of getting the biggest panel filter I could find from halfords and then making the box round that but this is a good idea, much simpler which is always a good thing. guessing the pipe to turbo would come with it also?
As long as its a reasonable price I can see them selling well.

Surely that's what the radiator and engine coolant is for?

Hi Luke, will this eventually isolate the filter completely from the engine bay? Looking at the siting of it, it may be workable with my engine with the right hosing etc and if it can be seperated from the engine bay I'll definitly be interested!

I reckon it cost me a good 15-20hp when I was on the dyno due to the silly intake temps.

I always wondered whether extending the pipework for the intake down into the side vent and blocking that off so only cold air from the vent would go into the intake. I have a vision in my head not sure if it would would or be any good. :thumleft:

As you know, I'm very interested in this...just need to get an aftermarket air filter that fits onto the new rev 4!

Do these work for N/A cars too? Airfilter sits roughly in the same place right?

And from your construction it looks like the filter is fitted against the airbox, and the lead pipe towards the throttlebody is fitted on the flipside of said box, correct?

And last but not least, OEM fitment or drilling required and pricetag on such a thing of beauty?
