Dazz,

What I am saying is that the MR2 GT could either be a NA OR and turbo, from what I can see you are saying, a GT model (as shown in the image in this thread) can only be a turbo, THAT is what I am saying isn't right.

The info comes straight in from the ABI codes.
If you can't see the angle, you're in trouble.

I understand that Ollie.

What i'm saying is that if you have a an imported car with a turbo it's either a GT or GT-S.

The op's car is down on the log book as GT which according to Toyota was only ever a JDM Model with 3sgte which could have been tbar or not, so i would presume it's been registered incorrectly.

The list you posted up doesn't seem to have GT-S Turbo only GT-S. How can this be?

Lets just say this did come down to court action who would have the definative answer?

I think Association of Britsh Insurers don't know what they are talking about.

Someone is ringing me back soon. I'm making out there is an issue with my policy so need a definitive answer.

There is no UK GT.

Import models:
G - 3SGE
G-LTD - 3SGE
G-LTD - Beams
GT Turbo - 3SGTE
GTS Turbo - 3SGTE

UK cars:
Coupe - 3SFE
GTi-16 - 3SGE

My Turbo is down as `MR2 Coupe` on the logbook. I have always decalred it as GT spec/turbo. But I mean if it`s on the logbook as a coupe from import and you were a fresh owner and the insurers ask what it is, you read that off the logbook... FE insurance prices! And you wouldnt even know yourself that anything was wrong as the logbook states Coupe.

LOL, you'd know it was a turbo, plus MR2 Coupe stated to insurance company, they'd want more info on model.

Coupe is just the body style of the car on the V5.

Yeah we would know, but if a random who had never driven any MR2 just bought it as a runaround summer car and had a glance over the logbook.. I`ve had insurance on the phone in the past and they are going, `is it GT T-Bar, MR2 Coupe, GTS..?? I have a drop down menu and there are lots of options...` They wouldnt ask any more than that if you said it`s a coupe, and its a coupe on the logbook. Obviously that would be incorrect and potentially invalidate the insurance..

Or would it? It would not be quite the same as having an engine swap in an N/A to turbo then not declaring, because everything would match up as original... Maybe this was done on purpose for people to scam and get cheaper insurance when they were first imported? I dont know. I wouldnt risk not declaring as a Turbo model just in case of an accident and then it did cause an issue. But I guess you would show the logbook stating Coupe and play dumb.

What I`m saying is, a brand new owner wouldnt even know about the variants and for all they know they could all be turbos, and when the insurance asks on the phone `is it a gt t-bar, gti, g limited, coupe, blah blah`.. New owner checks V5 and says `its a coupe`. Could happen.

Not advising anyone to do that obviously!

No such thing as a UK GT. GTi-16 yes, GT was an import turbo.

Mine is a JDM G, log book says...

Model: MR2
Body Style: 2 door saloon

So mine is just an MR2 :D ...

As has been said it's best to tell them everything, not that insurance is worth the paper it's written on...

Technically, yes. My point was that UK cars were never badged as "GT"

And there lies the problem, and this is a UK car, more often than not we find imports are registered incorrectly by the DVLA. .
