[Mk2] [NA] Dizzy Cap and Rotor Arm - how long do they last?

Post by hygt2 »

Hi all

I changed these 3 years ago when I first got the car - Nippart dizzy cap and rotor arm.

Used primarily for track days since so heavy use but low mileage (2-3k a year)

How long do they normal last and how can I test whether they are still good? Visually, they look fine.

Many thanks

No idea about a Nippart dizzy, but Toyota (Denso) ones last 5+ years before any real noticeable difference. At least on the NA that is.

I guess the only way to check condition would be to remove it and look at the contacts on the inside of the cap.

Or measure the leccy getting to the ignition leads - but I've no idea there :)

A good way to preserve them is to spray wd40 over them, only a thin coat. This will help prevent rust on the electrical points. To see if they are still working ok you can take out your spark plugs earth them out on the chassis somewhere and turn the car over. Do this individually and look at how strong the spark is on each plug. But remember electricity is dangerous so don't hold the spark plug when doing this hold the rubber ht lead away from the plug end. Hope this helps
