22v rear brake upgrade

Post by boondougal »

peeps,

Anyone completed this upgrade?

Know i know it needs a spacer so in an effort ot save a bit of cash i used the centre of the old rear disks and had them turned down a bit, they are about 5.6mm thick so should do the job but when i offered them up i noticed that there is none of the hub left in order to centre the wheel... is this normal...

That happens with mk1b fronts + 6mm spacer. The hub is not supposed to bear any load, neither are studs, but it's there to provide hubcentricity of the wheel. Conic lugs will make your wheels lugcentric and wheel wobble may occur. Therefote some 22v rear upgrades are based upon clio front discs +spigot (no spacer needed) or corrado fronts machined down to correct size.. i personally, wold try the clio first

Reading up on this I think your right, I like the look of the Clio route....

Annoying as I had bought new fronts and spent a load of time messing about withe the spacer... Oh well!

Cheers Lee, I take it no spacer was needed, just a spigot ring.

I ordered these..

"ebay"

26 quid for the pair delivered... i thought that was great.

ordered yesterday, arrived today.

I have some spigot rings that i will use to get it hub centric... just need to reduce their width a little.

There are quite a few types... make sure its the 260mm disc... alot are 240

what's the total height of a matching Clio/Corsa disc?

i have just found that Clio discs are 20.6mm thick instead of 22mm and Black Diamond doesn't make anything for Corsa. They do however make Nissan Note/Renault Megane 4x100 disc, 260mm dia, 22mm thick + 44mm overall height (47mm should be MR2 front height) :)

Well the corsa disks are 24mm thick, (min 21) but i think the height is only 41... But that is from an ebay advert, if you would like i can measure them but you will have to point out from which point to which point on the disc to measure.

I would say that overall height (inner brake surface-to-cap height) and cap thickness would be the best information you could give me :)

24mm thick? sounds too much for 22V caliper, doesn't it :)
