Pics of Mel's new Sills

Post by Bry »

I'm sure many of you will recognise Mels MR2 from the summer shows. In preparation for this years shows he's had some new sills fitted. He tried getting some from Mr T but £900 per side is a joke so he then decided to try the mk1 astra sills as used by another IMOC member. The bodyshop he uses "Viking coachworks" were given the car along with the astra sills and were left to do their magic 8-[ The next day Mel received a call from the bodyshop telling him the Astra sills were now in the bin  and that they'd be custom making they're own sills  Well I let the pictures I took of Mel's car speak for themselves, they done an amazing job

That looks amazing, something I definately need to do too.

Do you mind me asking how much that work cost? and how long it took to do?

Cheers, Michael.

Mel paid £700 all in which compared to £900 per side for sills from toyota without fitting and painting, seems a really good price to me.

My wife had a full pro respray on her MR2. Sills were replaced and they used Ford KA Sills, which were apparantly damm near the exact same as MR2 sills, but were £25 the pair :-)

Aren't those ones for the middle section of the sill, directly under the door.

As I believe the part that rots is part of the rear wing, so that will cost a fortune from Toyota.

Buy three, one for each side, and a third (either hand).

Cut the center section out of the third, cut that section in two, and use it to extend the rear section of the first two sills so that they can now replace the full length of each sill...

Thats my plan - will tell you how it goes :)

Just had my rear sills done for the MOT.
Welder made his own and fitted rears to both sides.
Cost £350
