[Mk2] [NA] Exhaust Blowing - Newbee Advice on Parts

Post by DB Mr2 »

Hi,

My exhaust is blowing quite bad now and am pretty sure its coming from the manifold area. I think this is creating the 'ticking' noise that sometimes sound like the hydraulic tappets on them old fiesta's/escorts.

I am wondering where to get the parts and what is needed.
Is there a reputable dealer in the South East that is not going to quote me Toyota prices?
I will need the manifold gasket, but do i also need two crush rings for the 4-2 connection after the manifold (i'd rather get them done at same time)

Thanks in advance

My old MR2 had a receipt from a previous owner for having the exhaust manifold replaced at Beadles Toyota in Maidstone. I seem to remember it was over £1000 for parts and labour.

I usually get my parts from TCB parts or Camskill and get my work carried out at a small garage in Maidstone called Mongers Garage. It may be worth going further afield to an MR2 specialist for a manifold change however. It can be a tricky job although it may be easier on a n/a.

If you have the original exhaust on there i would probably try to get the gaskets etc from MrT to be sure they fit.

I ordered a patent exhaust from TCB last Oct as it was considerably cheaper than the Toyota original but to be honest its not the greatest quality (IMO of course) and will be replacing it as soon as i can.
