[Mk2] [Turbo] Error code 24??

Post by Pidge »

Last night I had to jump start the car outside the garage as I had been away for 2 days and it seemed to have killed the battery.

On the 10 minute drive back the engine warning light came on so I took it steady the rest of the way and left it until this morning.

Checked the code and it is error 24 which I am sure is something to do with the intake air sensor. Has anyone else had the same problems or know of a fix?

I have taken the plug off the air box and made sure it's all ok with no corrosion and plugged it back in as it all looks fine. I'll reset the codes and take it for a spin later to see if it was just a bad connection or not but any light that can be shed would be great :thumleft:

toyota books says

error 24
Open or short circuit in intake air temp, sensor signal

Trouble area
Intake air temp sensor circuit
intake air temp sensor
ecu

You prob need a new sensor

Download the Manual and it'll show you what to check with a voltmeter

Airbox sensor might have become disconnected. If still connected you could try testing using the engine bay temp sensor from the underside of the engine cover as it's the same as the airbox sensor.

Sorry for the late reply guys but seems to have gone away? I guess it must have been a bad connection on the air box and when I took it off and replaced it it must have sorted it.

Cheers for your help :thumleft:

Hmmm, it seems to have come back. I take it if I bought a new air box that will solve things? I have tried to source more info but the bgb isn't an easy read on an iPad #-o

Does anyone know if I'm harming my car with this problem? Really want to fix it but not sure which sensor to buy to sort the problem?

hi Pidge we also encountered error code 24 after a battery failure last week.
i dis-connected the air flow meter, checked the plug and re-greased, cleaned the meter its-self, and then reconnected everything. after re-setting the the ecu (by dis-connecting the new battery for 5mins) we have not seen the code pop up again.
if your problem persists, try the other afm you have bought. again if it continues, start checking all the wires from the AFM for any damage/corrosion etc.

Cheers mate, I'll have a look at the cable as I still have replacement afm fitted and still see the error so must be something to do with the cabling.

Cheers for the pointers bud :thumleft:

Sorry to bring this up again....,

I've got this error code (car) seems to run ok...but getting the air intake error code on my Mr2 mk2 rev 2 n/a.....

Now reading this thread it sounds there like there are two sensors engine bay temp and air intake?

As I have one wire connected to the air intake sensor and a spare one hanging down by the air filter?

I'm so confused and want to sort this out!

Any help appreciated :-)

John
