[Mk2] [Generic] Modified dashboard - show me yours!

Post by Peter C »

I'd like to change the interior of my Rev 3 without spending £££ on fancy gauges etc...

I've removed the central rear storage unit and replaced the gear stick knob with something a bit meatier.

Any ideas what to do next?

Photos please!

Why have you removed the central storage box? Aren't you left with 2 metal brackets sticking through the carpet?

I think a nice set of leather/suede seats from a GT tidy up the interior no end, complete with matching door cards.

Maybe some white dials?

The metal bracket is fixed with a pair of 10mm nuts, it comes off easily enough and there's even a bit of lining that springs back and infills the redundant opening. I removed the storage unit as I don't keep anything in it and I don't like the look of it.

Seats - mine are mint and better seats cost money.

White dials - not a bad idea.

The most common affordable mod would be a selection of coloured interior parts.

It's very marmite, though.

I've done all different things with mine over the years, but i've settled on how it is now. Not far off stock, but a few subtle changes that make it feel a bit more modern:

Mk3 steering wheel

Keyless ignition

Reclining bucket seats

Custom gear surround, although this is an old pic. It's now been sprayed black as you can see in the first pic

think outside the box and do your own thing matey...have you tidied up the hole left in the chunnel by the wee rear storage compartment? I have stealthed my turbo timer/boost controller away into the flipdown change drawer and the ashtray well ...which can lend itself to that sort of thing too...the clock can be removed, without suffereing too much of a wounder, and replaced with???

I've just realised this thread is about the dash. I thought it said interior #-o

The chrome\brushed dial rings are a nice touch, you can just see them in my pics :thumleft:

If it involves removing steering lock, I suggest getting written confirmation from insurance company they're happy with steering lock being trashed before converting..

When I fitted push button start and flick switch for the ignition to my escort I had to leave the ignition lock in to keep the insurance happy :( so you fick a switch and press a button to start then had to use the ignition key to unlock the steering ](*,)

A Nitrous bottle fits nicely between the seats where the box was, if you're into that sort of thing...
