Heater Hose Water Leak.

Hi All,
Today I decided to fix a water leak under our Mk1 and found it was the metal heater pipes. They have rotted through just where they join the rubber 90degree pipes.
I have come up with the idea of cutting out the rotten metal piece and replacing it with a metal joiner and another piece of rubber pipe to join it all together.
My question is what tempereture and pressure does the system run at as the pipes and joiners I've been looking at state lots of differences.

99% of cooling systems run less than 12psi and less than 110 degrees.

I had a leak from the 90degree rubber heater pipes a while back Bod

Mr T will only sell the rubber pipes with the metal ones that go up into the frunk at enormous cost

So I used straight rubber pipes with lengths of compression spring inside to stop the 90degree bend from kinking

You could thus make longer rubber pipes to reach your cut back metal ones

Its an old trick I have used many times before with classic cars

Hi Peter,
I went Mr T today and you are correct about them only selling the rubber pipes with the metals ones but never got as far as the price as the parts are no longer availible.
So, your idea is to find a tight fitting spring, push it inside the pipe and create a kink free bend?
Sounds like a plan.

Thats correct Bod. It works well

My car is set up in that way at the mo

Will take a piccy of the kind of spring I use tomorrow & put up here

The anti corrosion properties of the coolant will keep the spring in good condition

Is it 87028B and 87208C your talking about ?
If so I seem to remember these are around 15mm OD, if they are you could make new ones from 15mm copper plumbing pipe using a spring pipe bender to form the bends.

Yes 87208B & C apparently Jimi

The metal pipes are 15 mill OD (similar to plumbing pipe)

I considered making bends from copper pipe but decided against

I had the thought of using plumbing parts today believe it or not.
That is a neat job with that spring.
It really is great this forum. I was really down hearted the other day when I pulled it all apart and finding out Mr T could no longer help but that is the fun of owning and old car and the good fortune of being in a family like this.
Well thanks guys, I now have options and things to mend.
