Hi guys,
I've noticed my car seems to have an intermittent water leak. The cars been laid up of the winter and i have noticed a small puddle of coolant dripping off the plastic undertray closest the engine on the drivers side.
Thing is its completely intermittent. Sometimes ill move the car out and nothing! run it up to temp, put it away, move it back out and still nothing. Other times ill do the same but observe a small puddle of coolant on the floor.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

I wish lol however my car is garaged over winter and the colour of the fluid is very much Forlife red!
Could the weather have anything to do with it?

Is it the tray that you remove to get to the oil filter? If so check the thermostat area.
The heater pipes from hell are further forward and leak onto the larger undertray in the centre of the car, usually.

Re: Intermittent Water leak (plastic undertrays)
Hmm, bit of an update. I had all the plastic undertrays off this weekend and it was bone dry! Argh!!! I looked up into the tunnel where the PFH are and theyre fine and in good condition, no water at all.
The leak only appears after the car has been used then cooled down i.e overnight. It doesn't leak when its hot and running.
The drip is coming off the sump in the bit ive circled in red. (not my car)
Drivers side at the rear of the sump
Any thoughts guys?

If its defo coolant, then I'd think that the waterpump leaking as its right next to that bit.

100% coolant as its red. I had the timing belt cover off this weekend to try and get a good look at the water pump but from what i could see (which wasn't an awful lot) it was pretty dry. There are no dribbles or spots on the pump or the belts in that area. If it is the Waterpump where is there a good way of getting a good look at it?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Intermittent Water leak (plastic undertrays)
you have to take all the cambelt covers off to get a good look at it. not the simplest of jobs.

Yup did that cambelt cover (4 bolts). I could see all the belts, the pulleys and the side of the water pump, but couldnt see underneath it (theres a mount in the way)

Re: Intermittent Water leak (plastic undertrays)
You have to remove the lower cover so the bottom pulley needs to come off.
If you have replaced the water pump and cam belt in a while, it may be time for that nice job now !!

Re: Intermittent Water leak (plastic undertrays)
I know this is an old thread but I'm currently experiencing the same symptoms you described and was wondering if you ever tracked down the problem.
Like you my leak is intermittent. It doesn't leak when running only after the car has cooled down and not all the time either.
Any help would be appreciated.
