Turbos and stuff - Talk to me guys

Post by Odin_S »

I'm looking to turn up the heat on my rev 3 so what to assemble the parts together.

Where or who are the best people to get turbos from? I would like a GT 30xx think its Garrett?

I think i'm set on pistons, going to get them from Ebay US

Which leaves the EMS and fueling any help here would be great. Thinking Link G3 and 800cc

What kind of power are you looking for?
TOTB 2010 Rwd top speed, 1/4 and shootout winner.
10.7@142 on R888 street tyres, 10.3@134mph on slicks,
9's on slicks to come, with a clean full throttle pass! Goal of 0-150mph in a 1/4 of a mile....

+1

You have to decide what you are aiming for, then build up the required spec to hit it...and be realistic about your budget as well :thumleft:

400bhp would be my goal really or just over

I already have a PP IC and stage 3 clutch. I hear the GT28 wouldn't make 400.
I just going to slowly gather the parts together. I only really want to do this once so getting a GT30 would be better as i wouldn't be wishing what if

What's the best site to have a gander at turbos and prices?

gt28RS - 350

gt2871 - 400

It is possible to get that from the 71.

The US mr2 owners always get those figures from the guys at ATS racing

For 400 I think a 3071 is in order..

at that power forged pistons and larger injectors are required as well.
Greddy TD06 20G would fall into the power requirements as well

Yeah- I see what you're saying, if things go wrong it's easier to sort with UK seller. But if you buy from decent US based Ebay shops ( Top Sellers with 10000000's of +'ve feedback), and are precise with the spec of parts you require you should be fine.

I've purchased a good few parts from the US- never had any issues at all...lets face it: specifying the piston size and compression ratio you want isn't difficult if you agree the part numbers with them.

Main thing to be sure of is that you take into account import duty when pricing up, but last time I shopped it still worked out cheaper than UK suppliers.

My opinion anyway

FWIW I bought from this guy- he was really helpful, did me a bundle of parts and saved on P&P:

Take a look at the precision billet turbos, they seem to be outperforming most other turbos out there at the moment. There's also borgwarner and comp turbo to consider. The new garretts are the gtx series (billet wheels).

Turbo techs come on quite well in the last couple of years.

Here is a dyno plot from ats racing.

The blue one is (ats aarons). Precision 6765 billet.

The green one is a stock 91 NA.

The red one is a stock 1994 Turbo.
