Steve's latest Rev 5 n/a in Cosmos Blue

Post by stevenb »

Bought it in July from a lady who'd owned it since Sep '99 and she was the 2nd owner. 1st owner had it less than a month and was a Toyota employee.
72k miles from new.
She drove it very carefully indeed and this car has never been ragged.
Full service history with no mods (the way it's staying).
I've DIY painted the alloy wheels and given the rear calipers a lick of paint but I may do all 4 calipers either a dark metallic grey or gold colour in the future.
I've T-cut the car and polished it and it shines up lovely with only a few stone chips to the bonnet/pop up lights.
It drives totally spot on. Smooth as anything.

Cheers.
The rear lights seemed a little dull so when I was t-cutting the car I t-cut the rear lenses and to a little lesser extent the front bumper indicator/lights (which need another going over to make them better).
I then applied colour wax which I kept on the car until I washed it again.
Then after washing again I applied Autoglym SRP followed by the Extra Gloss Wax and did the same on the rear lenses which came up lovely.

Clear side repeaters have now been ordered to compliment the front end.
:)

It was nice to buy an honest unmodified MR2 and once I sort the electric aerial out I'll be able to listen to the OEM radio as well as OEM CD player. :D

Well the clear side repeaters are on.
I've just bought a 2nd hand set of Man in Dandism mats from someone on here so they'll arrive next week.

Another subtle change I have just made are the bumber plate screws.
They were white on black letters and with rusty screws/missing caps.
So £1.65 later from ebay I had a pack of white/yellow/black caps and new scews. The black caps make the letters appear much neater now.

I've changed my mind with regards to modfying.
Basically, I'm not going to. I like the ride comfort as it is and it's nice to cruise along in relative peace and quiet.
The car will just have nice quality maintenance parts when needed ie Brake discs/pads, Tyres, fluids.
I think cars hold their value better this way and it's easier to sell when/if the time comes.

There are plenty of 2nd hand standard parts including exhausts etc if I need them too.

I'm thinking of a private number plate instead....as a treat.
I've seen one at the lowest price they do them on the DVLA and the same style one for the Wife too.

Yeah it's staying unmodded.
Just need to get it repaired now following Saturday mornings accident.

Sourced another bumper 2nd hand from gtschris which looks spot on and excellent value.
Good ol' Chris.
It's going to be fine. :)

Excellent :thumleft:

Just a shame so early into owning the car, you're already having to shell out on a bumper and respray :(

Yeah I know.
Saving for my Mexico holiday too so this will set me back a month now.

Mind you, I've had a few quote options.

1) Prep and paint 2nd hand bumper leaving myself to remove the current and fit the re-painted one coming out at £240 inc VAT. Plus the bumper delivered at £80 = £320 all in

2) Prep and paint 2nd hand bumper, removal of old and fitment of re-painted bumper blending into the wings = £480 all in (inclusive of bumper cost)

3) As option 2 but also painting both front wings, bonnet and headlamp covers = £730 all in (inclusive of bumper cost)

The bonnet/headlamp covers and wings have stone chips (the bonnet worst affected) so as they wouldn't charge me any extra for materials to do the extra bodywork I'd save at least £90-100 as I was going to get this work done regardless at the end of March next year.

Hmmm.....decisions... :-k

Here is the damage:

It's a shame it couldn't pull out.
It kinda would pull out but I'd never get the neat line surrounding the light cluster back in shape.....I was told the same by both bodyshops.

Got the car all back and fixed up pretty good to be fair.
Typical bodyshop.
I have just noticed evidence of paint mist/overspray on my car.
It will t-cut off no worries as I've just done the most visually impacting areas but running my hands over the paint I can feel the little bubbles.

Oh well....thats 5-7 hours of washing/t-cutting and polishing/waxing ahead of me. ](*,)

I've also managed to t-cut out the abarsion mark on the indicator lens so thats a result and althought it juts out a tiny bit more than the other lens on the opposite side it's still good.

In future I can break the lens to remove it and just replace both. But for now it's solid and still looks pretty good.

Doesn't look more than a couple of years old, absolutely stunning.

Is it difficult finding Rev 5s?

Thank you.
The front bumper was unsquashed a few weeks back (you'd never notice) without the need for nasty filler etc it's even better than it was originally.

I don't think they are hard to find as such but I wanted one that was unspoilt with no modifications and hadn't been abused.
That's the difficult part.
Having owned a few MR2's in my time I can honestly say that this one is the smoothest and one of the prettiest.
The ride is still firm but comfortable on OEM shocks. The brakes are still sharp. The ride is quiet and refined too. Enough zip to have a little fun if/when required.
The lady I bought it from had owned the car since Sep 99 and with the 1st owner being Toyota for less than a month from new it was a good buy.
Although I have fitted clear side repeaters I still have the orange ones.
The car has the original stereo CD player, Full history from new including bill of sale.

Pending my job still remains intact etc I am hoping to change my car at the end of March next year for either a S2000 or Boxster S so the MR2 will make way for whichever I buy.

Well it made sense to do it.
T1R's on the front and nowhere is selling new 225/50/15's (of decent quality that is) so when these came up on here for £70 a pair with 7mm of tread left (exact same amount of tread as the fronts) I knew it would be the best option.
£15 in fuel to collect and £20 fully fitted and balanced means that £105 was very well spent. :thumleft:
