[Mk2] [Turbo] Oil feed fitting new turbo. Help please

Post by Alex O »

Hi,

I am fitting my new turbo and have been advised to ensure oil comes out of the oil feed pipe to the turbo when the engine is cranked to ensure oil supply is ok before actually fitting the turbo.

I have fitted the pipe and removed the king lead and then turned the key. The engine is turning over but no oil is coming out of the pipe.

Am I doing something wrong?

Would love a couple of pointers....
Thanks
Alex

Bump?
What I need to known is how long I need to crank the engine for for the oil to start flowing.

I tried 3 times for about 5-10 secs each time. I have just changed the oil and filter too.....would it therefore take longer as the filter has to fill up etc?

Thanks

can't see whst your getting at really matey...I changed my turbo a while ago, and then got in my car and drove off...your not going to fill the turbo with oil cos the drain is on the bottom...yes, you want to know that oil is being pumped around the engine and turbo but unless you had a prob where it wasn't...I reckon you'll be ok...if your worried about the bearing in the turbo, you could always pour some oil in there before sticking it on, just to grease the wheels a bit.

Once everything is together, remove plugs, efi fuse, and crank until the oil pressure light is off. Then start. Or remove the turbo oil drain into the sump if you really want to check flow through the turbo.

Thanks Luke.
Approximately, how long do you think I will need to be cranking for until the light goes out? Should I do it in 10 sec stints or anything like that?
