My REV5 Beams

Post by ctc_celtic »

Its good to be back in MR2 ownership!!!

Picked up my 2 last week, shes a 1998 cosmos blue beams engine REV5. Spend the last few months trying to find something descent, but the amount of tatty rubbish about is unbelievable.
So when i came across this beams i was very sceptical, full veilside kit, loads of ice and 18's wheels. Didn't sound like my cup of tea, but when i seen it and drove it, i figured a few quid spend in the right places and she'd be a lovely car.

First job is to get rid of that kit, luckily the fella selling it has the original bumpers. So she'll be going in for them to be fitted and resprayed.
He also has a set AVS T6 alloys that came on the car from japan.

The guy thats fitting the standard kit has offered to respray these in what ever colour i want, i'm think of a grey colour similar to the colour of the 18's that are on it at the moment. I'll probably get a set of REV5 alloys at some stage, but may as well take advantage of these wheels for now as they are the perfect set-up for a 2.

Looks nice (well, I can say that because you haven't included a photo of the front bumper :wink: :eye: ).

But no pics of the best bit? the engine!

I might know where you could get a cheap kit very very soon :whistle: :lol:

Couple of more pic's, have done much to it this week, just tying to get the normal speakers working again and get rid of all the previous system.

***UPDATE***

(crap camera alert)

Got the front bumper changed to standard and got rid of the 18's for a set of 16's.

Very slow progress, but thank god that front bumper is gone, couldn't drive 10 feet without it catching on something.

The 16's are only a stop-gap till i get something better, but they're really grown on me.

Had a NA 3 years ago and drove a couple of turbo's. Power is completely different to a turbo, no similarity. The beams drive is very similar to an NA at lower speeds, i'd say the 0-30 times is the same for NA or beams, its only when you get past the usual 4.5/5k that you can feel the power keep going, but seen the fujitsubo exhaust on mine is loud, i do find myself changing up quicker to stop the noise ](*,)
Standard exhaust will be going on at some stage, but there's no rush for it.

Looks well now with the standard front bumper on, are you keeping the veilside skirts and rear bumper on?

They dont bother me as much as the front bumper bugged the hell out of me. Will get rid of them at some stage, but for the moment im going to get as much driving enjoyment as i can before she'll be locked away for the winter.

Things to do before next summer;
Change exhaust to standard
Set of rev5 recaros (have my eye on a set)
get all speaker sorted (currently listening to 1 speaker) #-o
nice double din unit

Later;
Remove skirts and rear bumper
Then cut the springs, set of 19's, loads of neons, a big go faster strip down the middle and a TRD sun stip that covers 60% of the windscreen.........
