Got to be broken. Just spent over £400 on a fix and it hasn't worked so it's the end of the line after 12yrs and 2mths.
All the mods can be sold I think... I'm thinking about £1500 in total would you lot agree?
Still, sad day for me.

But it's not done bad!
Not many cars of its age will have lasted as well!

NOOOOOOOOOOO! Dont let it die! But, if you do decide to break... I would be very interested in the Rogue front lights.. lol. Seriously though, so much work and replacement parts and it looks so tidy still in all your pics, is it really the end for it?

Cheers for the responses fellas. Luke is going to have one more look over but... The overheating is still there.
Changed the water pump and a few other bits whilst down there but when i took it on the motorway... 70/80 for a sustained period after 20 miles the needle just rose. Was in the red almost by the time I came off luckily at an exit only a few hundred yds ahead. Limped back and had to stop every 5 miles to let it cool. Thought on a 2 or 3 occasions I saw white smoke but I wouldn't swear to it. Could have been steam, or nothing.

The problem is the problem can't be found. If I change engine and it's the rad or matrix or something else I'm lost. Plus I can't really claim originality if I change the engine... and it did test at 142lbft of torque at about 185000, more than it should have had leaving the factory.
Think it's time to move on.

I think to be fair Rob, your car has done very well mate.
That time we spoke at the Red Lion in Water End nr Hemel that night on the club meet you said you wanted it to keep going for as long as possible.
That was a few years back now so it's done brilliant as it is.
I think it's just not wise to chuck your money at car that's not cost effective (as sad as it is).
I know you want to keep it original but the fact the car hit the mileage it has means it done amazingly well. if you sold it with a replacement engine in there, the fact the old engine did the high miles would still mean it's got the history as it's so well known in the club. I don't think that any prospective buyer would be put off mate.
Sorry but......
If you do break it. I would like first dibs on the exhaust/de-cat system. I can collect from you or from Luke's.

shame to break it, a replacement engine would give it a few more years but... if you do break it dibs on front lights .... but don't break it if you can! you know you love the car and what would you replace it with ?!

Re: Sad day. 216,967 miles but no more.
Well the H/G has gone. It had been tested previously but no issue recorded which seems strange. Nick ran it up to test the coolant system for hydrocarbons and it recorded v high figures, should be nothing of course. The question is was this the issue all along or is there another as yet unknown.. so do I repair it (£600-£700)... or I could drop a rev3 engine in for perhaps slightly less if I bought a breaker and left the bits with Luke afterwards.
I have to confess I'm tempted to believe it was just the H/G, get it done along with a few other little oil leaks whilst we're there again and carry on...
trouble is if I'm wrong and it doesn't fix it that's a grand gone and no car.
Hmmm......

get a newer engine. No it won't reach the mystical quarter of a million miles, but you will have a car that will work for longer...
