Re: 3 Piece Split Rim Refurb Options?
I thought the REv4 diamond cut alloys are lacquered and my lexus IS200 wheels have the lips polished and lacquered without dulling - that was the look I was after
Re: 3 Piece Split Rim Refurb Options?
I bought these wheel without tyres so cant say, however, if they had had tyres on I reckon I would of removed them first anyway.
Anyway, on with the re-assembly....
Made sure I had all the tools to hand
A bead of sealant on the inner back of the centre (its just resting on the inner rim BTW!). Now I only put it here as I dont think your trying to stop air escaping y6or just stopping he ingress of water which would in turn cause "corrosion" which wouyld force the rims slightly apart. I dont suppose thetres anything stopping you putting it all round the bolt holes but it would make the job extremely messy and a nightmare to split them again in future.
I put a few bolts temporarily in as a guide then lowered the centre with sealant on onto the inner (well worth doing a dry run first as depending on the position they fit better - just lay them on and spin them round until they go snug then remember that position by marking them. As a tip before dis-assembling 3 piece rimns you should stamp all 3 pieces so they can go back together in the same exact relative position - I only learned this when it was too late.
Now a bead of sealant round the inner lip - again to stop ingress of water
Using some bolts again as a guide I now lowered the outer lip on and pressed it down to form the wheel sandwich! :-)
I popped in all the remaining bolts then added the new stainless nuts and tightened them all up by hand
Because you cant push them down all the way your left with a gap between the centrre and inner rim so filled this with silicone before tightening nuts properly.
I kept working my way round the rims tightening opposite bolts until everything was seated then checked with a torque wrench (this is all easier said than done LOL)
WHen finished you have to clean off the squeezed out silicone from the front
The real sealing of air to keep it in the tyre is these 2 channels here so then made sure they both had enough (too much!) sealant in
Its been left over night but still not completely set but took a photo this morning - think theyre ok at a distance LOL
Just a reminder of how they started out for comparison
Ive got to sort the valves out next and get a tyre on and make sure it leaks - if thats ok Ill do the other 3 - oh and get that lacquer off the sprayed rim..oh yes and find some suitable wheel nuts and get them rechromed. I think thats it?! Most prob replace those bolts at some stage but skint at moment after all that! LOL
The lacquered rm just for reference - I'm sad to report the look is growing on me
