Engine detailing colour options...help needed

Post by boondougal »

Hi Guys,

Well i am pressing on with restoring my Mk1b and i am about to send all the suspension parts away for powder coat but i am a little stuck on which colour to choose for the engine and as i want to try and match up the engine detailing with the powder coating i thought i would ask what options people would go for and if anyone is clever enough with paintshop to mock up some options.

I have a 1989 mk1 t-Bar in mica blue with full black leather interior, the car will have clean lines all the way round, no decals, smoothed recesses etc and for some reason i quite like the idea of white detailing, i was going to go the blue route but as Paul has beat me too it on his "stock" rebuild and as i am basically copying most of everything else he has done at some point in the past i thought i would see if anyone could mock up what the white would like like... just to test the water....
Paul i hope you don't mind me using your photos.. but if someone could basically make all the blue areas in the photos below look gloss white (or any other colours that people think would work well) then it would be really appreciated.

If white worked then i would do the callipers, suspension, suspension arms, ARB etc in powder coat white... if not then i will just get them all black and match the callipers to the engine...

Any way all input welcomed and appreciated.

heat from the engine will turn your white first yelllow then brown, too much white detailing can look cheap and soon looks second hand
nowt wrong with a nice silver finish if you ask me :thumleft:

If you like blue, go with blue. You won't be the first and you sure won't be the last :thumleft:

My offerings from past to present

This was my favourite and have never been able to replicate the quality, but it was a pain keeping them clean.

i was always tempted to try wrinkle VHT paint on the cam covers.... only thing that puts me off is that many honda owners do that
