Hi all.
Sorry have not posted for a while...
How about matte (mat?) paintwork for the mr2?
Actually for my car I was thinking about matte white. It seems to show angles quite well and obviously there are a lot of angles on our mk1s.
Anyone done it, seen it. Opinions please...
Dave
Quite a few have been refinished in Matt (normally black).
I guess it is all personal taste; seems to be a younger generation who tend to go for this kind of look.
One thing it makes sense to point out is the difficulty in selling any matt painted car afterwards.
Yonger generation, I'm 39 - does that count
I figured as my paint is pants anyway it certainly wont make the car worth any less, and anyway I'll never sell it...
I'm also hoping it will cover up my dodgy filler on the arches, but maybe that's not the best reason.
I'm tempted. I'm looking for examples now.

My mk1a in matt black, vinyl wrap is stupidly expensive IMO.
Oh and mine sold to the first person who viewed it, I wouldn't worry too much about the ability to sell it on.
You can matte any colour its just an additive in the top coat, I was looking at them and found a gorgeous Impreza.
Problem with matte white is it looks like white primer, and is real hard to get dirt stains out of.
My old Saxo (before I really ruined it )
Also great for writing on with coloured chalks [/img]
I'd thought of doing this because I did it to a VW Golf 20 years ago (for a laugh). I've started by painting the skirts and splitter matt black to see how it looks.
The main reason is that I've had problems getting a decent dark blue mixed for my car and was thinking of re-spraying the whole thing in a non-metallic black (some common-as-muck Ford colour) and then doing all the trim matt.
I'm 45 so I don't think age matters. That said my brain thinks I'm 17.
I bought Greg's Matt Black Mk1, but only because it had the supercharged engine. I wasn't a fan of the colour, but it has grown on me over the last 2 years.
I think I will stick with it.
Saw a Bentley Conti coupe kit for a Supra at kit car show and they didn't have time to paint so threw on matt white sticky back plastic and it looked mint with black grille and wheels. Really like the matt white on that car.
