MK1a Splitter on a MK1b. *Finished w/ Pics*

Post by Retro_Boy_G »

Hey guys,

I recently had a wheel size change (Had to goto 16" unfortunately) and although the car is mega low at the arches it's a tad higher than I'd like at the front..

I was just wondering if anyone has ever attached the MK1a front splitter to the MK1b front valance/splitter things.. ?

Are there any other alternatives? I like a nice basic lip, no curves or anything.

Thanks!
Gianni

Yep! I'm definitely down with that. Wheels look nice too; Got an aggresive stance now.

Gonna be easy to knock off though ;)

Believe it or not it's still to go lower.. I need to shave down the front wings and rolls the back arches.. It's mega bendy the splitter so it should be fine.. Already been put to the test when I rolled off my ramps! haha.. That thing can BEND!

My next plan is to remove the middle section of the back spoiler.. It's always annoyed me.

Cheers guys.. Needs to go lower! My pictures always make the camber look seriously positive..

Anyhow, I'm not overly happy with how these pictures make the car look but I'm sure you'll get the jist of it..

The wheels are actually some unbranded eBay jobbies.. They are lovely though with good dimensions (bar the 16" part).

16x8j et15
16x9j et20

Car just needs a good clean up, back arches rolled, fronts shaved (Fibreglass) and dropped another 5mm. I'll be fitting some racing harnesses to it over the next month then it's MOT time in a few weeks.. yey.

They are like BBS but they ain't the real deal. Fake xxxx FTW!... Until they crumble under the weight and I die in a car crash.

Thanks :).

There is a bolt smack bang in the middle.. I secured it on with that and then drilled holes along each side and used some industrial cable ties.. pretty solid but also gives it a bit of give in case it needs to bend a little.. :)

I'm a bit of a JDM whore.. My RX8 is styled in a very similar way.. wide ass Rota GTRs and as low as I can possibly make it! haha..

The wheels are 8j up front and 9j at the rears.

I think it kind of makes a refreshing change to have a MK1 with a very JDM look. I like it. I know with my car it seems to be the way to do it, well unless you're Irish and they have their own 'look'.

Thanks Lauren! I've been following your AE86 thread on DW.. That thing is super clean! Yours is exactly how I would have mine if I was lucky enough to own one! :)

Sorry to disappoint guys but it's a bog standard good old 4A-GE under the lid.. The only mod being a little breather filter (Not pictured) and the awesome Jimi bracket fitted by the main man himself!

Image

Unfortunately my alternator is done in so I've ordered a refurbished one today and I'll hopefully get that on next week and I can enjoy the car until the MOT and Insurance run out next month.. There are a few things needing sorted for the MOT but I think I'm going to take it into the MOT station and have them sort anything it fails on.. such as - no horn, no fog lights and a very poor handbrake.

I rolled the back arches last night and dropped it another 5mm and shaved the firbreglass arches at the front.. It still rubs at the front but I can live with it.. It's only really on heavy cornering..

The car quite badly needs a respray to get it mint.. maybe next year though.

Until then, enjoy a picture I managed to get before the battery died on the car..
