[Mk2] [NA] Exhaust blowing URGENT need a replacement

Post by 10thanni »

My Rev 3 10th Anniversary NA has just started sounding like a tractor, hmm. Presumably it will need a replacement back box. Asked everywhere almost...anyone got a spare? It's coming up for an MOT on Monday so would have to be compatible with a cat, I presume.

Help! Thanks. 8-[

It's my daily runner so would need it quick.

Why not find out which part is blowing first.

It could be just the flexi which can be replaced....look on ebay for back boxes or full systems, your'll need rev3+ ones tho or look on the breakers section on here.

Thanks Foxy...I wouldn't know what to look for! I love driving the things but have no idea when it comes to mechanics, argh. Any easy hints? Am a musician so have to look after my hands and don't usually want to put my fingers in strange places :-)

take it in to kwikfit  ask them to do a free diagnoisis and list what need replacing, and go away and think about it, that will tell you what you need

Thanks, I popped round to see Jason who's round the corner and he jacked it up. Foxy you were right, it was the flexi...everything has rotted everywhere so in the end will need to replace the lot! Argh, it must be the original exhaust so all the flanges have corroded away. Now I have to find a cat and back box too at a reasonable price...

Thanks yet again for your help Jason, you're a star! :thumleft:

I got a new midpipe made up recently by the longlife exhaust place on the A34. Might be worth a try!

Thanks Toxo...yea, Jason mentioned them too. Just given them a call and off in a while, great! I have been bombarded with silly prices of 5, 6 and 700 pounds for whole exhaust systems by Toyota, hmm.

My midpipe was about £250 but that was 3" mandrel bent stainless with big thick new stainless flanges, it would be much cheaper at 2.5" which is a suitable size for N/A.

Ok...after 2 days of hell trying to find an exhaust, flexi and then seeming like I needed a whole new exhaust system I took it to Longlife on the A34 and they managed to sort the blowing flexi by welding a piece on to it for the grand total of £30!!! Result!!!

It's a 'permanent temporary' job but it gives me time to sort out a new one eventually and pass its MOT on Monday. Great service from the guys at the garage...recommend it to anyone in the area.
