[Mk2] [NA] How big a deal to change steering wheel?

Post by brgbrm »

I miss the momo I had on my v6, is it a big job to switch from the standard steering wheel on an NA?

Does it have an airbag? If not pretty simple I think.

undo 1 screw from the bottom of the wheel, pull the horn surround off, get a 19mm socket and loosen the bolt (without taking off), wiggle the wheel free, undo the bolt completely, removed :)

I just looked at the face of the steering wheel and it doesn't say airbag on it so I assume it doesn't (it's a rev3 uk car).

So, that's great, thanks! I just need a momo now, or are there other decent steering wheel types?

Momo <3

Some of the OMP wheels look pretty smart - depends on what style you want though I guess.

Check my garage for a shot of a quite small and slightly flat bottomed Sparco.... looks quite oem in my opinion. :thumleft:

I have a sparco wheel that's pretty nice, you could look into those.

Thanks for those thoughts. Anyone any idea what the minimum sensible diameter is?

Mine came on the car when I bought it - its either a 260mm or 280mm and its a bit on the small side - quite nice when you are used to it though.

350mm is optimum size any smaller and its like you're driving with a shirt button  oh and you wont be able to see all of the dials through the wheel either at less than 320mm
