N/A ahh right, so the other one the owner must have fitted it aftermarket?

Thats good to know then.

What do you lot reckon to this car:

talked to the seller, had its second cambelt done, shown me pictures of some minor marks on it, seems genuine.

yeah, they're very cheap and with very minor elbow grease look good. They also add some stiffness to the chassis, which I guess makes some difference in T-Bar models.

Looks like an OK car, the only downside of red mr2's is that they fade horribly. Especially engine/boot lid, any flat surfaces exposed to sunlight for years. If it has good service history and has been well maintained mileage is not high at all.

Best to go and have a listen to it, drive it, and have a read of the MK2 buying guides available on this forum...

pretty sure they were fitted to all t-bar cars..... helps stop them flopping all over the place

on cars of this age i would look at the way its been treated/serviced rather than what the odometer reads

would you prefer a clocked car (cery easy to do on mr2's btw) with a 'genuine' 70k and no history or a 145k mile car thats got receipts for just about everything to rebuild it from the ground up.

If it was a 100k mile £70k ferrari then maybe walk away but an mr2 for a few £k - wouldnt worry

x-braces can be fitted to any mk2 wheter it came from factory or not. I got one on my NA and im certain it made it stiffer

My UK 98 R plate had one but it was a T-Bar. I believe to was there to reduce rear chassis flex.

145,000 miles shouldn't be a problem with regular (and competent) maintenance.... I've got 70,000 more on mine. X braces can be had for £10 or so.

I have X braces on my Rev3 n/a tin top. Looked like they have been there for years as they have faded/started to rust where the engine lid vent allows water to drain onto it
