[Mk2] [Turbo] whats new in the way of chargecooler setups??

Post by jimGTS »

am looking to be raising boost behond 1.4bar, potentially 1.7-2.0bar, its unlikely any sidemount will cope with that sort of pressure/heat.

st205 isnt an option on a top mount turbo
boot mount seems extreme

only 2 i see available are the radtec rogue do and the 3S CC kits...

however after alot of digging on here, seems as tho these radtecs have leaking issues, and the 3S one you cant buy as a kit as they only supply and fit (id rather be fitting it myself to save some dosh)....

it looks like id need custom piping with the radtec anyway seeing as the turbo isnt in the stock location, so seems a waste to be paying for pipes i wont need.

anything anyone can recommend if i pieced together a kit myself??
i appreicate the turbo/intake piping will be the main issue to get made up, but the other bits and pieces?

just looking for ideas

thanks

Couldn't you modify the inlet on the st205 core to line up with the turbo as I'm having done with my top mount turbo?

with reports of the st205 at limits of 350-400hp id rather not chance it tbh.
the compressor on the apexi is massive and sits over the camcover slightly, so would think it would be very tight fit (if at all).

looks interesting, tho do seem on the small side compared to all these others??
8' by 10', seems small.
and piping for it, wonder how it would fit.

I've been looking at what these guys sell and going by the sizes of some of them they should be up to the challenge but have no idea what the quality is like. :-k

I'm looking at cores on frozen boost's website (cant post link). They do a number of different sizes and one of their 90 degree ones should fit where the ST205 core will but allow me to keep my traction control. Also gives me the option to flip it over 180 degrees and fit it where the AFM is once thats gone and the side feed manifold is on.

They're in the states and although their prices look good I dont yet know what postage will cost.

Jim,

Why don't you just take off the intercooler and find a company that will make a charge cooler that will fit in the stock location, then you could have the rad infront of the aircon rad?

For sure
But i dont know any companies to ask or enquire about something like this.
Except now this pwr and frozen boost website. Tho would guess this wouldnt fit in stock location. If I could 'find a company', I wouldn't be really making this thread. Lol. Hense the questions.

Your other option could be to contact Forge Motorsport and get them to make you a better intercooler for the stock location, double core etc, all they would need is the dimensions etc and you could just make it a few inches thicker.

I can't think of anyone else who make them at the moment (too early for me)

thor racing do PWR charge coolers in a variety of sizes, they look quite good. I know dave (dangerous) used to run one so pm him for performance opinions.

Problem with fitting the CC in the I/C location is that the inlet tract is not made shorter. One of the things a CC is good for is allowing the inlet tract to get shorter because you dont need to place the CC core in the air flow.

Dont know how much it affects it but will know soon (read 6 months) when I have my core fitted.

Going to be making an order from Frozen boost this month if anyone wants to split the postage and possible customs charges!

Jim, don't you have a pp ic? i sold my PP IC and the money i got for it paid for all my BMIC parts, i let my PP IC go cheap too!

I think that you should just bite the bullet and go BMIC! I get so many WOWs! when i open up my boot lid and theres yet Morrreeee engine in there! lol
