Argh sill rot

Post by TheBaker »

Was just about to finish colour coding my rev 2 by painting the sills and I was sanding it down and bang, right at the rear of my left sill, rust appears, so I took the chisel to it to knock some of the paint off and it went through it a bit, then a bit more jabbing and it's like paper. :( :(

Check pic.

Mind you I did post about this a year ago and people said to replace it, so I've not done too bad lol, I painted over the rust and it seemed fine if bubbling a bit. These have obviously been replaced before on both sides, it's just the side in mention that is rusting.

Should I source a small sill/piece of metal for the rear of it and get it welded in? And does anyone know any recommended parts/good parts?? I know of sill from the KA, is that a good shout?

Cheers.

As above mate. My heart sank when my finger went through a sill but i got it all cut out and replaced. The inner sill was spotless two which was a bonus!

They tend to always go in the same position too. When we did mine we pulled out a handy piece of water retaining foam which has probably been holding 20 years worth of Japanese/UK water lol

Cheers guys.

mr2turbo99: Did you replace the whole sill or the rear? Like I say, must be really bad cause they've already been replaced on mine. :?

How much did you get em done for?

Cheers.

I just replaced the rear section. The remaining sill was spotless. It only cost me £60 for a 18 inch section but i am friends with the guy hence the price. It is well documented on the forums. Some people have done some cracking work replacing the rot
