I use one and i dont care what anyone says about them being cheap crap metal, seizing up or rounding off.. Mine has worked Perfectly for as long as i own it and every time i change the oil i see the amount of crap it collects (usually microfine metal powdery stuff)
I say buy one!
just thought it wood be an interesting toppic for discussion.
I can't see the use as in my recent problem I had bits of piston floating around my engine which are not magnetic being aluminium. also piston rings are not magnetic.
I still can't understand how parts can get through the oil filter as it is a paper cartridge
I guess parts of shells are magnetic therefore a magnet may pick these up and indercate engine ware
will search now!
thanx Ash Man
My opinion is if you've got enough metal to be floating around in your oil to be collected, then you're gonna have bigger problems soon.

thats a bloody good point greenie! think it will be interesting for run in tho! will post a pix of it after 500 miles on run in oil.
thanx for hks fcd, box book and everything! top imocer
Yup most if not all gearboxes will have magnets in. (it's a pig to keep in place if you're trying to change a diff on the E153 (the cheating way aswell ))

lol, he speaks the truth
gearboxes make loads of metal in comparason...one reason why the 1275gt came with magnetic plug as standard on engine sump (gearbox inside engine)
