They are very similar but the longer wheel base puts a big time delay on everything, which I suspect is why the masses could hold a slide on a wet roundabout where an Escort will bite you that bit sooner (but nowhere near as hard or as fast as an MR2 will of course).

The 2.8i ones sound epic and I'd say they are cool in their fashion, most people go V8 rover these days (lighter engine).

But I degress!

Agree, 2.8 and Brooklands are cool. Trouble is my memories of a Capri, involved my cousin who had a 1.3 Capri! Shocking!

God, that must've been awful. I've got an HCS/Kent engined Ford here and it's dire. Good old crossflow!

It was rubbish in all honesty. It was a lot quicker than walking though.

Lauren, you've never lived! Pimping around in my capper was cool! (obviously had to have the chest hair puffed out!) mine had a Vauxhall XE in it for some extra revvy poke, was a bit alright!
Sadly gone down to London now, the lad is moving the running gear into a mk2 escy & dropping a Cosworth into the Capri.

Although the fun recent one for the old fords is an S2000 engine & 6 speed box, hmmm mm!

Had a friend who had an XE engine in a Manta. I know I've never lived, but I'm not a cart spring lover really. ;)

The basic xflow is a bit lame but they are very tunable!

Here's the one I built for my 4-door mk1 Escort, but never fitted sadly. Cost me about £1.8k in machining and parts, ten years ago! Big spec but looks semi-tame from the outside.

God I miss sidedrafts.

(..but not cart springs, we all agree there!)

The sound of twin 40/45s is hard to beat. Had twin 45s on my 2.3 Firenza, sounded wonderful with the stage 3 big valve head.

Mind you that 20v Levin I drove did sound absolutely lovely, so I think throttle bodies are the way forward these days.

I did my first proper MPG today. Came out at a 34.46mpg average which is pretty much all around town driving, including a trip into the centre of Manchester which was stop start for over an hour. I haven't been trying to drive it particularly economically either, I guess there is a fair bit of cruising at 30mph with the odd run to the redline on occasion.

It just seems way better than it should be, but I have double checked and it is correct! That's better than the 30mpg I used to get out of the pretty stock MK1.

Yeah, erm thought I might have got the sums wrong, it's actually 23mpg(!). Probably about right considering I've been a little bit of a hooligan.

Got back from work today and this had arrived in the shed:

It is Mark's lovingly rebuilt with around £1500 of new Toyota parts 4AGZE. Wonder what that'd go like with those cams in it and a unichop/equivalent. Pretty well I'd imagine.

Indeed Toni. Seeing that gleaming engine there really makes me think about putting it in. In a way too, it's rather fitting as it was out of Mark's old SC (I blew it up 8 years ago), so it is cool in that respect.

We'll see. Going to enjoy the NA at the moment (the sound it makes at full chat..).

Decided to go GJOB today. Also gave me a good opportunity to really look at the paintwork. It's not perfect, but I would say overall it really is in very good nick.
