[Mk2] [Generic] Need a friendly MOT tester in SE

Post by Leon. »

I need to get my MOT sorted and my downpipe on a '98 means I need a cat test, which in turn means I will fail the emissions test.

Does anyone know a friendly tester in SE England (ideally Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire) that might turn a blind eye to the emissions, if I have a cat in the boot?!

No it doesnt. You dont need a cat in place to pass a cat based emmissions test.

when I MOT'd my rev3 turbo engine it obviously passed , but from the print out shown, would have also passed the later cat based emissions.... :thumleft:

Yes it does....

Up to 95 You dont need a cat on Imports, so I hear...

My Rev 4 failed on emissions....

Cat back on.

Pass.

No you dont NEED a cat, you just need to pass those emmissions guidelines

depends how healthy and efficient the engine is I suppose... Like I say mine would have passed the later cat based test, and I had no cat

I'm aware of that Dale, thanks, but I know I won't pass without a cat because I haven't before... hence my wording :thumleft:

ForMySin wrote:And what your asking is illegal... Just to clear :) anyone who MOTs a car has to do so based on the rules and regulations set down.

Any tester who doesn't follow these rules can lose their license, get a massive fine and be prosecuted.

So be very careful what you ask for on a public forum

Thank you for your patronising, pointless post.

Asking it is not illegal, doing it is. I'm well aware of the law on this.

Seems you have opened a can of worms with this subject LOL, not that anyone on here would even think of using a relaxed MOT station.

Pity you aren't in Birmingham as i know a fair few. These range from over looking a blown bulb, to garages you don't even take your car to, kind of dial a MOT LOL

Seems so. Have to say though (and I know this isn't what you were saying but) I would never agree to someone turning a blind eye to safety aspects like bulbs etc, let alone anything more serious.

I know a place down here in Southampton gives me a deferred emmissions test, mines a '94 though but may be worth a try.

Just to point out I asked the guy if it wouldve past the normal cat test and no it wouldn't of, it wasn't that far out but it was a deffo fail on the cat test.
