Isn't there extra strengthening in the spyder? I'm sure Patrick from Rogue took the top off a MK2 with a grinder and it flexed like hell!

It might be easier but this was more fun lol
Plus it wont look like an mr when I've done body

RedMR2 - I've constructed a cage inside the car to keep the strength. When its finished it should be stiffer than standard as will run to all 4 shock towers and lots of triangulation

When you say get it on the road and sort a body later, you're not planning on using it with no panels are you?

Leepu is the asian blokie on the chop shop programme on discovery

Well another day of cutting, grinding and welding. Got strengthening beams from front shock towers to front chassis legs done. Seam welded where multiple layers were cut. Got beam in for dash top too.
Not a lot to see really so didn't bother taking any pics.
Hopefully get diagonals finished tomorrow and get new panels welded in to neeten things up then its bodywork time :)

Did one of the scariest things today.
I did a cop on a Mk1 Golf windscreen for the buggy. Practiced a few times on the cracked MR one before crossing everything and chopping the actual screen
Am happy with how it came out too
Just the new pillars to mock up now before it can be glued in

You'll need a BIVA test as you have modified the existing monocoque chassis. If it had been separate chassis you would have been fine.

Looks like an interesting project keep the updates coming.

This might be of interest - a custom chassis accept a 3SGTE:
