[Mk2] [Turbo] Apologies in advance, spark plug Q

Post by Shmed »

I know the topic has been done to death, but I feel semi unique....

I've decided on copper plugs, but what I'm wondering is, people with over 400 bhp, what plugs do you use, and also, should i be looking for recommendations based on a rev 3 as the only bit of rev 2 I have in the enine bay is the block?

Should I go colder grade?

Part numbers would be good please.

just have this niggling thought that if I rip out the wiring, then the car will never get out of the garage again.

6 is the stock grade isn't it? I have 7's in mine so yeah, grade 8's would be more along the lines I guess?

What's the deciding factor when choosing grade? Is it power or boost, or both, or something else?

There is a pukka thread on here about this and the woes of having the tip of an iridium plug wing its way through the engine...but I can't remember what it's called....

So just to clarify, I should go for the plugs above and gap them at 0.71mm? I take it that 8 is a colder grade than 6? And can anyone answer what defines the use of a colder grade?

Cheers
