[Mk2] [NA] Rear brake flexi

Post by Ian86 »

Ive been overhauling the brakes over the weekend and fitting braided hoses but on the rear there seems to be some type of valve thats fitted to the arch with two 12mm bolts. The new hoses dont come with these do you just bypass it an connect them up to your rigid brake pipe or am i missing the obvious?

I think you talking about the bracket which holds the brake hose to the body.

Some aftermarket kits don't have these, some do.

The original brake pipe should undo from the "valve" that's fitted to the arch ,the new pipes screw into it in place of the old ones

I think he means these brackets.

The rear two have little brackets to hold the brake line to the body.

Here's a pic of my Goodridge rear hoses fitted. They did come with the bracket but the bolt holes weren't spaced far enough apart, so I had to slot one.

I expect, as pointed out, your aftermarket kit doesn't have the bracket that the stock pipe has. It's there to remove any stress on the hardpipe but I can't see the weight of the hose causing any problems, you should be fine without it.

I also had to slightly file one of the holes on each rear bracket to make them fit.

If you don't have the bracket ,how does the two male ends join ? or are they different on braided hoses?

The bracket is one piece with the hose, you can't unscrew the hose from it. I would assume that the braided hoses that don't have this bracket have a female end!
