Over rev

Post by Rubber Chicken »

Thinking it's a slipping clutch but doesn't do it in every gear, only noticed it in 3rd and 4th when in the lower rev boundaries...say i put my foot down, the rev's go up faster than they should for the speed then drop back to how they should be...alot of noise and no action!!! :-#
Anyone more clued up (which is anyone) got any other idea or similar feeling??

sounds better now, that was right after I bought it, with stock exhaust.

It didn't seem that bad when I drove it around (slippage only at WOT), but when we took it apart it had almost no meat. So take it easy when driving around :)

i second taking it easy!

as many on here will tell you, very often the MR2 clutch will go from slight slippage to totally bu88ered suddenly and without warning.

Happened to me (on a motorway sliproad!) and has happened to plenty of others!

get it fixed as soon as you can before you get stranded somewhere! usual proces are around £300 all in from a decent trustworthy independant :thumleft:

Is it recommended to have anything else done at same time? Such as clutch lines or flywheel etc. Also the exedy clutch keeps appearing when I search, anyone got a suggestion on best clutch?

Do driveshaft seals and gearbox oil. Seals will get disturbed when doing the gearbox and will leak, theyre not expensive (15 ish each from mr T) and well worth doing. I got an oem clutch, but exedy is good I guess? I think for an NA it's not like you stress it anyway...

I know but I like a fancy name with it coz I'm stupid!

On that note...has anyone recommendations of clutches other than OEM...that aren't a stupid price either?

I got a Fidanza flywheel for my tubby off Ebay from America. It was the cheapest I could find. Paid £236 including shipping and another £20 to customs on arrival. Best price I could find in the UK was around £300.

About 2 weeks. It took longer to go through customs and be delivered by parcel force than it did to arrive in the UK from USA.

Not sure. There's this one on Ebay which includes a compatibility checker on the listing page and if you select turbo as the Submodel it says it doesn't fit but if you select the Submodel as Base or All Submodels if says it will fit a NA but the engine size they show is 2.2L. A bit confusing and wouldn't like to say this one will definitely fit a NA!

Fensport list one for the 3SGE but say it's for a rev2.
