hi all
unfortuneatly my car kind broke on me the timing belt tensioner packed in and the belt started 2 wrap around the crank pulley can some1 confirm if these are or arent (please!) an interferance engine? coz i went on google 2 find out but there were different opinions and couldnt find out?
my boss is letting me use the garage nxt wkend i have a rev3 metal head gasket and new bolts but dont wanna pull the head off and find out the valves are bent coz the car has a 2 be gone by mon and its getting my hand on another head. its also the case of dropping the engine putting a belt on it and refitting 2 find out she needs 2 be dropped again
i do appologise if iv confused u kinda confused myself
You dont need to drop the engine out to put a timing belt on.
Put the belt on and then turn it over by hand, if all is o.k start it up and do a compression check.
I've had two cambelts snap in MR2s while I've been driving them. One was a rev 2 turbo, the other a rev3 n/a race car. In both instances the belt was changed and the engines totally undamaged.
As a general rule of thumb Toyota fit belts to non interference engines, and chains to interference versions.
