[Mk2] [NA] Cam belt change

Post by 10thanni »

Hi, just been quoted £524 for a cambelt change and water pump!!! Er, does the water pump need changing? 500 odd quid seems kinda steep too. Any thoughts? Thanks.

P.S. My idle is still going up and down off and on...seen others here with same problem. Anyone solved theirs?

seems quite steep to me too.
the pump can only be changed by taking the belt off, if it goes then you have to pay for all the work again just to change the pump. it's cheaper to change it when you do the cambelt rather than when it goes...

also if it goes it could do overheating damage to the engine so it's a safeguard against that too.

you only need basic tools to do the cambelt change, why not give it a go yourself and save hundreds of pounds?

Thanks...yea, have shopped around and finally found Pacific Works on here. Am taking it to Luke so it will be sorted.

Re doing it myself, if only, ha. I am a musician...wouldn't want to hurt my fingers now :D

Best.
