Rule of thumb with insurance companies is to declare absolutely everything you change on the car if it's non standard. Better safe than sorry!

As he said its just not worth the risk I remember a lad who had a lot of problems when his escort cabriolet got stolen as he hadn't declared the optional extra rear spoiler, he bought the car secondhand and didn't know that the original owner had paid extra for the spoiler to be fitted.

Yes but the rev1 didn't so I guess it would be classed as a modification as it's been changed from the original factory specification. If Ollie spots this post I'm sure he could clarify the position from an insurance company point of view.

Re: declare to insurance indicator swap?
Yeah they would have to be pretty petty to void your insurance for that though. But, in this day and age we all know they will screw you over for the slightest thing and get away without paying out on a technicality. If it worries you give them a ring and let them know.
Re: declare to insurance indicator swap?
I really wouldnt worry about it mate. In the event of a claim some insurance guy is never going to know the difference. Unless your with a specialist insurer l would even want to try and explain that one over the phone.
Re: declare to insurance indicator swap?
What a great world we live where clear indicator lenses add 100hp and so therefore have to be declared...Saying that I dont think they'd bat an eyelid Adam86 is right
Re: declare to insurance indicator swap?
I doubt they'd bat an eyelid either by why risk it for the sake of a phone call? Afaik all insurers want to know about any modifications so surely even something as simple as changing the colour of an indicator lense would be classed as a modification? If that's the case and it did ever get noticed they'd be within their rights to say the insurance was void as the mod wasn't declared? I'm not an insurance expert and don't know if what I've said is true but I prefer to play it safe and notify my insurers of anything I change, even the little things most people would not even bother about declaring.
Re: declare to insurance indicator swap?
thanks for the info guys,
for my piece of mind i will let them know in a few days when i swap my wheels.
this was something that i never considered to tell them (honestly!) as its such a menial change, but now i think i will do, just in case. dont want the 2 to have invalid insurance....
thanks again

Strictly speaking, any change from when the vehicle left the factory should be declared. No specialist insurer that I know of would charge for this changing to clear indicators.

Sarcasm.
Re: declare to insurance indicator swap?
Bodykits, wheels and performance enhnancing mods (includes engine & exhaust system) are all they need to know about.

Re: declare to insurance indicator swap?
I phoned up elephant.co.uk to declare my clear indicator lenses and they told me not to worry about it. I made a note of the time of call and the person I spoke to just in case they throw a strop if I do claim. Better to be safe then sorry!

Then you should know that strictly speaking every change made to a vehicle from when it left the factory needs to be declared. Your definition above is far too vague and open to interpretation.

Indeed, personally I'd want that in writing though
