There is an internal oil seal on the shaft of the distributor.

This used to be such a problem that there was a DIY re-build write up on MR2.com 11 years ago when I bought my car - Toyota didn't offer rebuild kits which left people having to purchase a new distributor unit.

I can't find that original article, but I did google this:

http://www.mr2.com/forums/mk-2-mr2-sw20 ... tolog.html

And the kit of rebuild parts:

Maybe one of the UK parts suppliers offer a kit?

Good Luck
