[Mk2] [Turbo] What boost are you running at?

Post by esty112 »

Just seeing what is the standard boost rate of a rev 3 MR2 Turbo?

I've simply got a 5" dual exhaust and boost controller, but not sure what the boost bar rate is at, or what it is meant to be at for standard?

Also can any one confirm the horse power output of rev 3 turbos, 240 or 245 bhp?

Any help would be great as I'm trying to restore it back to the standard BHP.

Due to get a rolling road test soon in the Sussex area if any knows of a local place to go?

Stock boost on rev3 is 13 psi I believe with fuel cut at 18 psi.

240bhp standard.

Hope that helps.
Have you got an aftermarket boost gauge fitted?

Thanks RedMR², i'm not sure why the boost changes from 13 psi to 18 psi?
Also how/what does the fuel cut do?

I've only got the standard boost gauge in the center of the dash as standard.

The boost doesn't change. What he meant was that standard boost is 13psi. If for some reason something goes wrong and the turbo produces over 18psi of boost, a sensor will inform the ECU which will then cut power and put the ECU into "limp" mode. This just means that the ignition will be pulled to prevent you causing (further) damage.

The stock boost guage is as much use as a chocolate fireguard

you want a good aftermarket boost guage fitted :thumleft:

What boost guage do you use, i guess a digital readout is better than analog?

I have an Apexi AVCR Boost controller that has boost read out on (like most EBC's)

And a GReddy Boost guage on the steering column

Get a GReddy Mechanical boost guage and you will be fine (or any other make) -
