[Mk2] [Turbo] Help - How to fit a gas-ram to the boot ???

Post by Mr Two »

Purchased a gas-ram kit recently, fitted the frunk's and the engine lid's but am curious as the how the boot ram fits in. I know the top fixing will fasten onto where the spring is currently attached to the boot lid. It's where the other end fixes to that is confusing me at the mo.
Has anyone fitted one of these? If so any chance of some pics and exactly how the bottom part of the ram fits please??

Cheers :thumleft:

Ill see if i can find an old pic of mine,

i undone one of the bolts that secure the bumper bracket ,and fitted a L shaped bracket underneath ,then bolted it back down ,

the ram then fitted to the L bracket

Okay, this may be a dumb question but why would you want/need gas rams on the boot lid?

Isn't that what the spring is for? :-s

The springs are xxxx, well mine is anyway, it only holds the boot lid open 3/4 the way. I am really after a gas ram for the boot too, it makes working on the BMIC etc much easier, atm i use a block of wood !

Ah ok, my spring obviously still has life in it because it holds the boot lid open fine.

I was wondering (and how) you would want a gas ram on the boot as well. You can pick up second hand boot springs for a tenner'ish second hand -that's what I did anyway and it works perfect!
