MR2 drivers can't get it up

Post by brgbrm »

I've noticed since I've had my Lotus, that pretty much every other Lotus I meet flashes a greeting.

Hardly any MR2 owners do, though.

Is this just a mechanical thing, because by the time we've got the headlamps up, the other car's gone by?

I've flashed a few times when I've seen them but apart from recognition once, never got anything back. Even a wave would be good!

Seems like no-one is bothered :(

When I had the mk1, several mk1 owners used to flash back. This one time I was with my bird and a red Mk1 was stopped besides driven by a guy and his bird.

That was (in a sad way) cool. They were roughly my age - early 20's. So I suppose there was a greater element of uniqueness there.
We just smiled at each other with a sort of laughing joy of "god, another mk1! that person (other driver) must now cars!".

Hi Rob

Yes I am a member of SELOC, I'm looking forward to my first Walshy day in October.

It's interesting, this greeting thing, I wonder if it is related to the pop-up lights, or if it's to do with the Lotuses being convertible. One set can't be friendlier than the other :) !

I had a surprise on Sunday. I drive a Mk1, and have given up flashing Mk2s (never bothered with Mk3s). So I was surprised when a Mk2 flashed me to say hello on Sunday (as in he was the first to flash). So surprised he'd almost driven past by the time I flashed back! LOL!

So, to whomever was in Maidenhead in a black Mk2 on Sunday who flashed a red Mk1, thanks very much. You actually significantly improved my day! :thumleft:

Hi Pete, well, I can understand why we'd not flash so readily but if scooby drivers can wave then so can we! :)

Well how about this for a coincidence, read this post yesterday morning and on my way home from work last night i saw the usual Yellow Mk2 who waves back but also got a wave from another black Mk2, a red Mk1 and then this morning a Red Mk2. The community is alive and well in North Essex it seems!

I always flash a Mk1 but rarely see them. I would respond to a Mk2 but never initiate unless I knew them.

I was sat at some lights next to a Mk2 once, driven by a late twenties/early 30's man who studiously, and I mean studiously ignored me. I was right next to him!!!

Would not look over or acknowledge me in any way.

Think it all depends on whether it is someone who has the car, or whether it is an enthusiast. With virtually any car, if an enthusiast is driving then they know why, like the guy who nodded to me from his NSX on Friday after I gave him thumbs up.

Monday the 2nd i was on my way to Westfileds motors. Saw a mk1 join the a12 at the hatfield pev junction. Then came up behind me on the a130. I gave a little wav through the t-bar and turned off at the wickford junction.

Does that sound like you? It will be the first time I have spotted someone on the forum if it was, very exciting :thumleft:
