[Mk2] [Turbo] Crystal clear toblerones

Post by gazrev1tubby »

Hi all, some of you may know that i've been doing some custom mods to my 2 recently. The next on the list was clear toblerones to compliment the crystal clear sidelights in my front bumper.

I know Wolfie used to sell these, not sure if he still does - but thought i'd have a crack myself.

They are in the VERY early stages of being complete but here's a taster of my first attempt, the prototype I call it :D

There are a few bubbles and imperfections in the finish but now I know what's possible, I can make better moulds and use a slightly different process :th:

Thoughts ?

Thanks matey :thumleft: As mentioned, this is purely a prototype - the finished product will hopefully be flawless :)

And bang on bud, orange bulbs to replace the standard clear ones - or even the chrome bulbs that flash orange might look better ? :thumleft:

Should be complete over the next few weeks as I do this purely in my spare time but i'll put progress pics up as I go 8)

Go LED as it's clear until it lights up. Also looks very cool.

Thanks for the great comments guys, watch this space for progress :thumleft:

Alan, I've had no cracking at all mate, in fact i'm very pleased with how well it's held up  I used a layer of fg tissue first as it's very easy to work with, then built up the subsequent layers using the coarse matting. I used about 5 - 6 layers in total and it's extremely strong :thumleft:

Post by SWAGGER »

Hi all,
Just registered to your site. I am a member of mr2.ie. Hope all is well with you guys!

The Toblerones really bug me, dying to get rid of them. Was googling and came across this post on your site. When you have these moulds complete, could you please let me know? Id deffo be interested in a set and im sure a lot of the other lads would be too.

Thanks,
Steve.

Cheers bud, and no problem :thumleft:

I've completed the mould now but have been having issues with air bubbles in the finish. I've got a couple of techniques to try and will keep this thread updated as I progress. Should see some good results very soon :thumleft:
