URGENT!! Key Barrel Removal!

Post by Retro_Boy_G »

Can anyone tell me how to remove just the key barrel section of the whole unit? My key has snapped inside and I need to get it off and would prefer not to have to remove the whole unit. I've unscrewed the little alankey bolt which then released the actual ignition switch but I can't for the life of me get the key barrel out!

Kind Regards

How much has snapped and how far down is it?

I had a snapped key in my AE92 charger and I just used the other half in the ignition and it worked fine.

Remove the steering cowl then look for a small brass pin on the barrel assembly .pressing the pin in with the key fully home then the barrel can be removed :thumleft:

Leave the other bit in there.

I had half the key stuck in there, then I just used the other half to start it.

Glad you got it sorted though :thumleft:

Ok,now I'm stuck.. Everything is off but it doesn't seem to want to come off..

I believe it is something to do with a little clip that is holding the ballbearing section in place..

How the hell do you get that little circle clip off??

As Mulaz says why didn't you just remove the barrel? It's a 2 minute job.

Remove the cowling around the steering column then there's a pin on top of the barrel. Press this in and you can pull the barrel out with the key (or what's left of it) one turn around.

Cheers,
Tom
