I had a K&N cone filter before moving to an ARC Box, so much the same as an Apexi but wet filter instead of dry.

Performance is less affected by outside temp with the ARC box, ditto heatsoak after sitting in traffic as its an enclosed box. Induction noise is still very prominent though.

Also, K&N filter p/n 33-2017 fits straight into the ARC box ;)

I chose the ARC box, have had it for about a year now.

I wouldn't use an open filter on an MR2 personally :)

i was going to go for the ARC box but Apexi was top in some of the reviews so went for apexi.

I heard the metal ARC box absorbs engine easily heat thus becoming a heater.. don't think that's good for intake temperatures

i'm sure cone filters have higher surface area than panel filters as well

I had an arc box and even though any differences would be Negligible i would go down this route again as your not dragging warmer air from the engine bay straight into the engine.
It is too far away from the engine/turbo to become a heat exchanger of any kind, sorry C50 :(
