Does it matter if I attach rear drop links with thread pointing inwards?

what did they do differently to get them on??
tilted strut? then did an alinement?

Yeah undid the two bolts attaching the hub to the strut and tilted it, then I had the alignment done.

In this case, probably yes. However if the bolt you remove is a camber adjusting one it has to go back in exactly the same position it came out from.

There's TWO bolts fixing the hub to the strut.
If you leave the bottom one tight nothing should move.

Undo the top bolt, see if it's a loose fit or not and then proceed. Or not.
