I don't know if doing laps of the Nurburgring with cars full of camping gear will be the best idea :)

That's right, but I thought to do the laps on Thursday, sleep next to the Nurburgring and drive to Duderstadt on Friday.
So you can remove your tent and beer before going on a fast lap ;)

As for cost, i will have a gander over on the German forum and see what the score is. From what i can gather, last year people paid a one of price and in return had wrist bands which meant they could eat and drink all inclusive styleee!

I can't commit until I know what the full costs are, being self employed it gets a tad difficult to budget otherwise.

Last year the price was 64Euros.

It included camping from Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday.
Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday.
Barbecue on Saturday evening.
Beer and Softdrinks from Friday to Sunday.

And the presentation of the cars in the City of Duderstadt cost about 10Euros for each car.

The costs of the trip would be 100Euros plus fuel and ferry.
Or if you like, we could meet at the Nurburgring on Thursday (about 20Euros per lap), camp there and drive to Duderstadt on Friday.

Just wondering if it would not be an easier and little bit of a shorter drive if we got the ferry from Ramsgate to Oostend or Ramsgate to Zeebrugge?? There is a motorway straight through Belgium that connects with the autobaan in Germany! :-k

Have looked at ferries and found one for £78 return! Have also looked on a route planner and it is a shorter route!

Hope I am not tredding on anyones toes here by looking and posting this up on the thread 8-[ :pale:

I know it would mean longer on the ferry, but on the up side it would give people a chance to have a rest after getting up early and before the drive ahead.

The ferry I looked at left Ramsgate at about 7am and gets into Oostend at 12, so that would mean we would get to Duderstatd at about 5.30-6pmish!

No code to fill in, if you fill in the dates you can pick out the times of the crossings that suit.
I propose going for an early morning Friday crossing, and returning late night on the Sunday.

Thoughts?

I favour as early a start as possible on the Friday and as late as possible on the Sunday, meybe even coming back on the Monday. To drive there, and essentially just have Saturday there seems a bit of a raw deal. What about Travel over on the Thursday?

Well i also reckon an early as possible start on the Friday.
There is a 0555hrs crossing, arriving Calais at 0825hrs local time for £30.
Leisurely drive down to Germany circa 6 hours, we will be there around 4pm. Long day though. Possible to leave on the Thursday afternoon.

Return journey, there is a late crossing on the Sunday at 2315hrs, getting to Dover at 2345hrs local. Then there is an onward journey to consider.
Failing that there are crossings all through Monday at either £30 or £35.

Question is, can we camp on the Sunday night as well??? :-k

Will ask our German friends what would be best.

I am ok with the early start on the Friday, means we can have a more leisurely journey across to France. Need more infor before deciding the way back.

How leisurely a trip across France are you after, Malc? We'll only be in the country for about 16 miles
