Replacement shocks

Post by Fog on the tyne »

Can anyone recommend some decent replacement shocks? I'm looking for something 'middle of the road'...not rock hard race spec, but a tad stiffer than standard. Ideally, something of reasonable cost too...the old girl will need a fair bit of work over the next year and my pockets aren't bottomless unfortunately!!

The only shocks I can think of that are slightly stiffer than stock would be Koni's as they're adjustable. Have them myself and they're fantastic but I think the kit costs about £500 these days.

KYB's are rock hard from what I've heard.

Not cheap but i would go Koni, i have them aswell and on full soft they are a little harsh but make a big difference compared to 20 year old tired shocks.

Koni's are good.

BTW it's dampers not 'shocks'!

do people generally change springs at the same time, as these will be fooked after 20 years too.
do the koni kits include springs?

Most of the koni kits on sale include springs which are usually -30mm.

cheers. jumping the financial gun somewhat, but has anyone any experience of how these would fly with a Classic 'no-performance mods' Insurance policy?

*waves* I do.

Why not use the correct terminology, rather than a prole term?

Because your the only one that does care.

Back on topic, i wont advise it but many people dont tell there insurance of such mods. You should shop around or check with your current supply and see what they can do in regards to fitting koni's.

Call them up before you fit them and ask, it probably won't affect your premium.
