When you take off the oil cap when the engine is warm and running how should the engine react??

Ive heard mixed stories about this subject :?

why would you want to? preumably it would continue running with a small amount of pressure coming out with a few flicks of oil :?

I belive Its a good quick way to test the compression of the cylinder head, or something along those lines??

I wasn't aware the rocker cover was under any pressure.

Usually the oil system of a car pumps the oil under pressure up to the cams and then it's released into the head so it can run back down into the sump.

ahhh, i guess you mean to test if the valve stem seals are passing? would you not be better of testing the cylinders? :?

yes it would but it would be a nice quick way to see the condition of the engine if you went to look at one to buy for example.

But like i said, im not sure if this test is acurate or not. We have 2 mr2's both with different results when the cap is removed :?

Ive heard that when the cap is removed, if the revs drop and nearly stalls the car then the engine is in very healthy condition?? Not sure if this is true or not though
